One vision, many perspectives
One of Britain’s oldest membership organisations, the Landscape Institute had a new CEO who was keen for all areas of the business to be part of the strategic planning. We began with working sessions at the board and senior leader level, bringing together existing ideas and new priorities. The aim was to balance contributions from staff, the views of the board and trustees – energising the three very different stakeholder groups around a common vision.

Co-designing the future
We designed and facilitated a one-day board, advisory council and planning session with 60+ participants to learn about organisational culture and strategic priorities. The session gave everyone a chance to inform the new corporate strategy – and also to learn more about each other. We held several pre-briefing sessions with the senior leadership team, and coached them to support facilitation of large groups, for longer-term engagement.

Finding a way forward
Our contribution was to help the LI create the right conditions in their business – including celebrating past achievements, creating a safe space to share different views, and find consensus when it came to priorities. Making leaders part of the process gave them a greater appreciation of the many challenges, and led to the creation of a ‘legacy’ board to support the delivery of their five year plan.
