Scoping possible routes to net zero logistics

The CPC needed fresh ideas on how they could support net zero for last-mile logistics. In this short study, we inspired researchers to step back from national logistics and technology, and consider human, social and local solutions.

“From point-of-purchase incentives to collaborations with local town planners, Current Works helped us see the many possible avenues for further exploration – and directly contributed to our national report.”

High expectations mean high emissions

We want products delivered to us the next day, today, even right now. But as our expectations grow, so do the costs to the environment, and society. Briefed by the CPC to explore how last-mile logistics could achieve net zero, we convened thought leaders, experts, academic institutions and SMEs. What emerged from our workshops brought together the human perspective, technological solutions and the wider social context.

The human, tech and social solution

As the UK’s innovation accelerator for cities, transport, and places, the CPC is charged with investing in new solutions – but also maximising the impact of solutions already out there. By reframing the issues away from tech solutions, and inspiring researchers to consider the bigger picture, we discovered new, possible routes for collaboration, partnership and funding. Routes towards net zero.

Insight that’s ready to action

Current Works presented the CPC with a programme of research, a report on opportunities to explore and fully-scoped studies they could implement – along with an active community of stakeholders committed to further collaboration and partnerships. This work formed the foundation of the CPC’s latest report, which you can read here.
